{"id":4265,"date":"2016-04-01T11:51:05","date_gmt":"2016-04-01T00:51:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emotemuse.com\/g\/?p=4265"},"modified":"2016-04-01T11:51:05","modified_gmt":"2016-04-01T00:51:05","slug":"water-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wedgebillmusic.com\/?p=4265","title":{"rendered":"Water music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A common theme in the music of French composers at pre world war I was water.\u00a0 Debussy wrote <em>En bateau (On the Boat)<\/em>, <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Sirenes (Sirens)<\/span>, <em>Reflets dans l&#8217;eau (Reflections in the Water)<\/em>, <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Voiles (Sails)<\/span>, and <em>La Cathedrale engloutie (The Engulfed Cathedral).\u00a0 <\/em>Ravel wrote <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Jeux d&#8217;Eau (The Water Fountain)<\/span>, and <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Ondine<\/span>. <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So striking a peculiarity of modern music did these &#8216;water-pieces&#8217; seem to one critic that he announced a lecture on <em> La Musique aquatique<\/em>. And then . . . Well, as the lecturer began to speak &#8212; he was an old man and obliged to hold his paper very near &#8212; he was annoyed by clicking and popping sounds. He decided to make a complaint and put down his paper.
